At Paack we are extremely proud of our sustainability actions, and we aim to become Europe’s leading company in sustainable deliveries. By using innovative technology and a tech-enabled delivery solution, we ensure a sustainable delivery experience.
We have a dedicated team that works hard to provide sustainable solutions to all aspects of our business, and we are committed to achieving carbon net-zero by 2030, 20 years earlier than the Paris Agreement.
Our sustainability strategy is based on four main pillars:
- Measurement
- Reduction
- Contribution
- Reporting
Let’s take a look at how we apply each of these pillars to our business activity.
01. Measure
In terms of measurement, we take care to measure our direct and indirect emissions in all of our company’s activities. Regularly measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions arising from our activity is extremely important for meeting our sustainability goals.
Knowing our company’s carbon footprint will help us meet current and future regulations; identify opportunities to reduce emissions; offer transparent information about our emissions to current and potential customers; and respond to growing consumer demand for low carbon products.
02. Reduce
We carry out the following decarbonization actions throughout our operational chain:
- 100% zero-emissions distribution zones
- Distribution centres with electrical infrastructure for charging electric vehicles
- Optimised routing maximizing efficiency: Travel less to deliver more!
- 100% zero-emission vehicles
- Implementation of urban eco-hubs
- Digitalization
- Collaborating with certified waste-management-companies on our entire network of hubs and distribution centres
All of this enables us to minimize our environmental impact, and we are always looking for other alternative ways to reduce our emissions.
03. Contribute
The aim is to neutralise our emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets with the focus on achieving net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2030, twenty years before the Paris Agreement, and 10 years earlier than the Climate Pledge.
04. Report
We are going to publish an Emissions Report which will help us assess our progress in the reduction of emissions, and a Sustainability Report for assessing our progress in terms of sustainability-related actions.
In all the countries we operate in, we work to ensure that our activities have as little impact as possible. In 2020, we will also join the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), making us the first and, for the moment, the only logistics company to have signed the agreement.
Another example of our commitment to the environment is that we joined The Climate Pledge last year, an initiative led by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019. The aspirational goal of the project’s promoters is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and turn the climate crisis into climate action. This movement is a call to action for companies and organisations to take collective action to build together a safer and healthier planet for future generations.
While climate change is a real threat and can be scary, there are many steps we can take to make a difference, and at Paack we believe in pioneering the logistics industry in the fight against climate change, both for current and future generations. As our favourite quote from Jane Goodall states, “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
